FORCE launches new podcast service

FORCE has launched a new service designed to connect with even more people.

The charity, which supports anyone locally affected by cancer, has entered the growing world of podcasting.

And the first episode of the FORCE Cancer Charity Podcast is now available.

You can listen for free via apps on smartphones, tablets and desktops using platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google or Alexa.

Simply search for FORCE Cancer Charity and subscribe.

You can also find the FORCE podcast via the charity’s website – https://forcecancercharity.co.uk/audio/

The first instalment – recorded at the FORCE Centre in Exeter – features Chief Executive Meriel Fishwick and lead Oncology Support Specialist Emma Ellis.

Unprecedented

They introduce the service with a chat about how FORCE is embracing new ways of communicating to share news and information about what the charity does.

“The last 18 months have been unprecedented,” said Meriel. “We’ve had to manage extraordinarily difficult situations in terms of the way we deliver our services and keep services running and we have been able to do that.

“We are all incredibly proud of the way that’s happened. Now it’s really important to let people know that we are open, we are here for you.”

Podcasts – audio recordings – are a way to connect with an audience online in a personal, simple and effective way.

They have been growing in popularity, particularly in the last two years.

It’s estimated that 7.1 million people in the UK listen to podcasts each week.

Accessible

A podcast allows you to cover a range of topics in a form that’s easily accessible and potentially in greater depth than other ways.

In general, fewer people have the attention span to read feature-length articles or watch long videos.

They will consume audio – the spoken word – for much greater lengths of time.

“The idea is that a podcast fits into your life in a way that lots of other forms of communication can’t,” said Emma.

“You just plug in and listen while you’re doing something else like cooking or driving or walking or working out.

“And just like the other services FORCE offers, there’s no charge.”

Subscribe

You can subscribe to the FORCE podcast, just as you would to a magazine or a newspaper. Instead of having to go out and look for it, new episodes will be delivered automatically, straight to your phone or your tablet or computer, whichever device you listen on. And subscribing doesn’t mean you have to pay. It’s still free.

The podcasts will cover anything and everything to do with FORCE – the kind of services on offer, what the charity does, how it supports anyone locally affected by cancer and how it is funded.

FORCE staff plus patients, carers, volunteers, healthcare professionals and trustees will be involved – anyone with a story to tell that might inspire, encourage or interest listeners.
