Could you do the Great West Run for FORCE?

FORCE is delighted to be an official charity partner for this year’s Exeter Great West Run.

The half marathon takes place on Sunday October 16 when more than 3,000 runners of all levels will take to the streets of Exeter.

They’ll start in the city centre and the 13.1 mile course takes in the University, the beautiful country lanes of St Andrews Road and the roads towards Stoke Woods.

There will also be a 1.5 mile Family Fun Run on the same day, open to all ages and abilities.

Sarah Daniels, Head of Fundraising at FORCE, said: “We are delighted to be a part of this very important local event. It’s day that our city should be proud of.

“We already have 100 supporters taking part for us. Could you run and raise funds for your local cancer charity? We would like to raise more than £15,000 at the event this year to support people in our area. Please contact Naomi Cole on 01392 406153 for further details.”

The Great West Run will be started by Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell, who has announced a long-term partnership with the event.

“I’m very excited to get involved because I genuinely believe people get a huge amount out of setting themselves challenges and achieving goals which they can take back into their everyday lives,” said James, pictured above alongside the FORCE Cancer Support and Information Centre.

“The chance to develop a runner focused event in a region of the country that isn’t well served by them is a good one, made all the more important as the region has some of the highest rates of lifestyle and non-communicable diseases including obesity in the UK. We want to encourage more and more people in the area to get active and healthy.”

The British rowing legend and former double Olympic Champion, has invested money in the event and will help to develop and grow the profile of the run regionally and nationally.

First run in 1985, the Great West Run was originally run as a marathon, but in recent years has been run as a half marathon and become a popular regional event.
