Wynstream stars show support for FORCE

Wynstream School children present a cheque to FORCE Cancer CharityChildren from Wynstream School in Exeter have presented a cheque for £2,056.22 to FORCE Cancer Charity.

The money was raised from a fun run that involved nearly every one of their 350 pupils, from reception class to Year 6.

They walked, jogged and ran laps of the school playing field for up to 40 minutes.

Members of the school council visited FORCE’s Support and Information Centre to present the cheque and tour the facilities to see how the money they raised will be spent.

Fundraising for FORCE was the idea of Year Six pupil Lotti Carpenter, 10, who said: “I thought about doing a fun run for cancer because people with cancer struggle so much. We found the charity, did the run and gave them (FORCE) the money.”

She is proud of her schoolmates for raising such a huge amount and after visiting FORCE she added: “I think it’s a really amazing place – a very good place to put the money in.”

Meriel Fishwick, Chief Executive of FORCE, which supports anyone locally affected by cancer, expressed the charity’s gratitude.

She said: “I cannot think of a better way to start the day than meeting a group of inspiring young people from Wynstream School.

“They have raised an incredible amount of money for FORCE from a school fun run and I’d like to thank everyone who got involved.

“It was such a pleasure to be able to show the group how their money will be spent and explain what a difference it will make to local people affected by cancer.”

Wynstream Headteacher Elise Redman said: “As a community primary school in Exeter, our children wanted to make a difference to the community. Our School Council discussed which charity and the whole school voted, choosing to raise funds for Force as it is a charity that has supported many families over the years.

“As a school, we were astounded by the generosity of our school community; we had hoped to raise about £400 so raising over £2,000 was incredible.

“The School Council really enjoyed visiting the FORCE Centre and seeing how the money they raised by running a ‘Personal Best Challenge’ will be used.

“Thank you for hosting Wynstream Community Primary School and we look forward to working with you again in the future.”
