Autumn ride proves another storming success

Around 500 riders enjoyed glorious weather as they tested their cycling stamina on Sunday in this year’s FORCE Autumn Storm event.

They tackled a challenging 56-mile route, starting and ending at Fingle Glen Golf Hotel in Tedburn St Mary.

The first cyclists left at 8am and the last pedalled across the finish line by 4pm.

The route took them to Cheriton Bishop, Yeoford, Copplestone, Broadwoodkelly, Monkokehampton, Sampford Courtney and Whiddon Down before heading back to Tedburn St Mary.

There were refreshment stops at Broadwoodkelly Village Hall and The Countryman pub near Okehampton.

The sunshine afforded riders some superb views over Dartmoor and had spirits soaring.

“We send them through a spectacularly beautiful part of Devon, where possible using cycle network routes, and we were incredibly lucky with the weather. It was great to hear how much the riders enjoyed our event and we thank everyone for their support,” said Sarah Daniels, FORCE Head of Fundraising.

The Bike Shed, which has shops in Exeter, Crediton and Barnstaple, sponsored the event and offered technical support for the riders as well as all the refreshments en route while Exeter Physio provided treatment and advice at the finish.

FORCE is considering a change of route for next year but rest assured, there will definitely be an autumn ride.
