Rare chance to visit Devon garden of delights
There will be a rare opportunity to visit one of Britain’s most thought-provoking and unusual gardens this summer at an open day in aid of FORCE Cancer Charity.
Plaz Metaxu in the grounds of Coombe House near Witheridge will open on Sunday June 5 between 2pm and 5:30pm.
Visits are usually by appointment only but its owner and designer, Alasdair Forbes, has kindly offered to host this one-off charity event.
Entry will cost £6 with refreshments and local produce available to buy.
Sarah Daniels, FORCE Head of Fundraising, said: “We are thrilled that Alasdair has chosen to support FORCE by opening his spectacular gardens this June. It truly is a rare opportunity to visit this serene, calming jewel of a landscape hidden within the rolling Devon countryside.”
The garden attracts visitors from all over the world. It is set in 32 acres of glorious Devon countryside and has been described as a work of art.
Its design is unconventional with sculptures and stone features blending with the natural beauty of their surroundings.
The house overlooks a lake created by Alasdair as a focal point for his inspirational vision to transform the landscape he first discovered in 1992.
Parts of the garden are dedicated to characters from Greek mythology and there is much to discover as you explore the sweeping lawns, woodland, walled garden, the courtyard enclosed by 19th century stone barns, orchard and hidden architectural treasures.
Unfortunately there is no wheelchair access and children under 12 will not be admitted.
