Fishing group celebrates eighth anniversary
South West Fishing for Life celebrates its eighth anniversary this summer and to mark the occasion there’ll be an open day at its Wimbleball Lake headquarters on June 5.
The charity was set up in 2008 for people suffering, recovering from or living with breast cancer.
It provides free fly fishing sessions under the supervision of qualified coaches.
“Eight years on we are delighted to have eight groups around the country and we are still growing,” said secretary Gillian Payne.
Fishing for Life is endorsed by FORCE oncology physiotherapist Louise Ballagher who said: “Any exercise promotion is good! I usually inform my groups about the fishing. It is particularly useful for the breast ladies to gain strength and confidence in using their arm.”
The open day starts at 10am and finishes with a barbecue at 12:30pm. There will be an opportunity to meet members and volunteers, see them fishing and find out about the kind of support on offer.
