The Smuggler 2016

For the third year running our great friends and supporters Bike Shed staged The Smuggler in aid of FORCE Cancer Charity and North Devon Hospice. Starting and finishing in Barnstaple, this sportive explores some of North Devon’s finest roads and tackles historic coastal routes exploited by smugglers of old.  Riders navigate stunning and famous toll roads, climbing the iconic Porlock Toll, a beautiful snaking alpine style climb as seen in The Tour of Britain, and the breathtaking Lee Bay toll road that skirts high above the jagged coastline, passing a spot known as Smugglers Leap where an historic smugglers battle took place. Riders are treated to jaw dropping vistas, challenging climbs, epic descents, quiet roads and the the finest Westcountry food and hospitality to fill their tummies and fuel their engines.
