Paul’s walk raises £8K despite broken leg

Paul Vice, the former Royal Marine who walked from Exeter to Manchester in aid of his local cancer charity, has said a big thank you to all the people who supported him along the way to raise £8,000.
Paul, who has a prosthetic leg, made the trek to raise money for FORCE Cancer Charity, setting off from our Support and Information Centre.
“The encouragement I received and the kind donations from so many of the people I met along the way really helped keep me going,” said the father of four from Exeter.
He was scheduled to walk 232 miles but ended up covering 250 on his 10-day trek.
Broken leg
And he did it with a broken leg! X-rays after the walk revealed that there was a fracture in one of the bones going into his prosthetic socket.
That might go some way to explaining why the ex-RM corporal, who suffered more than 400 separate injuries when he was blown up in Afghanistan, described the walk as his hardest mental and physical challenge.
He had planned to do a 300ft bungee jump at Tatton Park to mark the end of his walk but was frustrated when it was cancelled at the last minute due to bad weather.
Paul hinted that he may have more fundraising ideas up his sleeve to help FORCE keep providing free support and advice to local people dealing with a cancer diagnosis. Watch this space!
