Quicks step out to raise funds
A family from Exeter has raised more than £300 for FORCE by tackling a popular annual charity walk around the East Devon countryside.
Claire Quick, her 9-year-old son Jamie, mother-in-law Barbara and mum Linda Richardson took part in the event at Bicton, organised by the Rotary Club of Exmouth & District for walkers or cyclists.
Their efforts were rewarded by backing from friends and family to the tune of £326.25.
“We always try to support a cancer charity each year and this year FORCE was on our minds as they have been particularly supportive to a family member this year. She has been able to enjoy pamper sessions and friendly support. We wanted to give something back to the charity as a small thank you,” said Claire.
The 13th “Walk or Ride!” attracted 168 people, who took on and successfully completed the challenge of walking 5, 8 or 12 miles or a 14-mile cycle.
“The walk was very enjoyable,” said Claire, whose family did the 5-mile course which took walkers through the grounds of Bicton College, the Bicton Arboretum, Colaton Raleigh and Otterton. “It was lovely to walk through the countryside whilst helping a local charity. And it helped that there was coffee and cake at the end!”
The Rotary Club of Exmouth & District event offers a great opportunity to raise funds for our charity. The routes are varied with coastal path, woodland, field and open countryside and are full of early summer colour and wildlife. Look out for the 2016 date on our events calendar later this year.
