Latest Classics Galore! concert raises record amount

We are delighted to announce that the latest Classics Galore! concert has raised a fantastic £23,500 for FORCE Cancer Charity.

It’s the most ever raised from a single Classics Galore! concert since the event was established in 2007.

Profits from last November’s musical extravaganza at the University of Exeter Great Hall take the overall amount raised from Classics nine concerts to a magnificent £153,500.

Sponsors, performers and members of the organising committee gathered at the FORCE Support and Information Centre for the official cheque presentation.

The money raised will go towards offering free support and advice to local people dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

FORCE CEO Kate Few-Singh thanked everyone for their hard work in making Exeter’s answer to Last Night of the Proms such a great success again.

“It was my first Classics Galore! and I was blown away by what a brilliant night it was. It was great to see so many people supporting FORCE and enjoying such amazing music. We are extremely grateful for all the effort that goes into making Classics Galore! a not-to-be-missed event,” she said.

More than 200 musicians and singers provided a wonderful mix of familiar pieces with everything from the Hallelujah Chorus to the theme from Superman and a rousing singalong finale in true Proms tradition.

The specially chosen Classics Galore! orchestra, Ottery St Mary Choral Society, St David’s Players and the Lympstone Band performed alongside celebrated soprano Cheryl Enever with BBC Spotlight presenter acting as compere for the first time.

Classics Galore! was established by cancer patient Dick Passmore and his wife Posy. Sadly, Dick died in early 2019 but he has left an amazing legacy.
